Overview

An effective alternative to a bit, the Zilco Flower Hackamore offers a contoured and comfortable design that uses leverage to apply pressure to certain areas of the face, nose and chin when the reins are engaged. Cushioned PVC waffle lining promotes a gentle action across the nose and prevents excessive rubbing or discomfort while the dual chin and noseband adjustments allow for a custom fit.

The unique and versatile stainless steel "flower" shanks offer multiple adjustment and position options to increase or decrease the amount of pressure applied by the leverage of the rein.

Additional Information

Technologies:

Zilco began in 1962 as a small factory in Sydney (Australia), making lightweight racing products from revolutionary synthetic materials.  Zilco's famous synthetic strapping is made from specially woven webbing that is coated in a co-polymer.  This strong strapping retains its flexibility over a large temperature range and has great resistance to abrasion, tear and cracking.  The strapping will not wick moisture like other synthetic materials so the coating won’t split or open.  Wonderful ease of maintenance you will appreciate.

Care Instructions:

Zilco is incredibly easy to maintain, you can simply clean in a bucket of soapy water, rinse, and hang to dry.

nice hackamoreThis is the one hackamore that fits all with the multiple clip/rein settings, based on the amount of leverage you need for the activity. I recommend adding clips to the end of your reins though for easy adjustments between ring options.

Comments: I bought this for a Tennessee walker with a curb chain and its worked amazingly due to her having a bone spur. little hard on sizing the top but it will do better once broke into. It is nicely made for the price. No rub marks or nothing. The nose pad cup her nose very well. All and all, very nice. Make sure to place it low. The reins loop should be at the corner of the mouth. If you go up higher you lose control of horse head. Just a helpful hint to others.

Comments: My horse loves this hackamore. He rides beautifully in it and seems to appreciate not having a bit in his mouth. Now he can snack (with permission) on our longer rides without risking choking. I like that I can use it on either horse, and they are quite different in size. I use it with the Zilco Deluxe Trail bridle and it is easy to use and easy to keep clean.

Comments: I really like this hackamore!! It's very attractive (I've gotten multiple compliments since I've started using it) and seems very gentle (my horse is not tossing his head or showing any signs of discomfort). The nose band is padded and does not leave any marks on the nose after riding for over an hour. It also does not impede his breathing and he can easily eat and drink with it on. That said... It is probably not for everyone. If you have a horse that isn't responsive or doesn't have good "brakes" then this might not be enough. I've been riding successfully in a Dr Cooks bitless bridle for years. My guy is very sensitive to my cues and will side pass, half halt, turn on the front/rear, stop on a dime, etc in both the Dr Cooks and this Zilco hackamore. Transitioning from the Dr Cooks to the Zilco hackamore was pretty easy and my guy seemed to pick up the new cues on our first attempt. I think the Zilco hackamore is just a touch more gentle than the Dr Cooks (which uses pressure on the poll). Again, the Dr Cooks is very gentle also but I feel the Zilco hackamore is just a wee bit softer. My boy really doesn't need too much to control so I thought he might enjoy this more. So far, so good. Again, you'd probably like this if you do not have major issues with your horse (i.e. running off, ignoring your signals, etc.)

Comments: I am in love with this hackamore. Bought this item 2 weeks ago and my mare loves it. Responds very well in it. I trail ride often and in groups. Passed my test! Had a few horses run past me and I was in complete control. She was super relaxed in it. I also love that she is able to stop and eat without having any issues.

Comments: I bought this hackamore a few weeks ago and I love it!! My mare responds very well in it. We mostly trail ride in groups so it was nice to test it out on the trail. I have used it for a few long rides and I am very pleased and my horse is too. My mare also seems to be much more relaxed on the trails. The only minor negative note is it did not come with any directions; I was able to youtube/google the correct placement and fit for her face.

Comments: I bought one of these a few months ago along with the Mad Tack headstall and rope halter. I LOVE this hackamore and my horse is very happy with it!

Comments: : Have only used a few times but so far my mare seems very happy with this hackamore. She is relaxed and seems to understand cues better than with other bitless bridles I have used.

Comments: I originally purchased this hackamore for my mare who found the traditional hackamore too strong. I wanted something with adjustable leverage and that had a more forgiving material. This product was perfect! The Waffle Padded Noseband never left rubs and it proved to be strong material. Although it did not work out for my powerhouse mare as it was just not enough, it was a perfect fit for our pony who went along in it on the lowest leverage option.

Comments: I borrowed one of these about a year ago trying to find the solution for my mare who has pulled a bit for about 17 years. It worked BEAUTIFULLY, and still, I didn't think to buy my own. I had to give it back, and tried a couple of other hacks with specialized purposes but nothing worked like this. SO - I JUST ordered my very own. It will be perfect - for the daughter of that mare!
