Overview
For the prevention of gastric ulcers in horses UlcerGard Equine Gastric Paste has 4 maintenance doses per tube, although for acute ulcer conditions one whole tube per day is recommended. With any medication, follow your vet's protocol.
Keep a few tubes on hand to soothe the stomach during stressful events such as traveling, moving barns, showing, racing, stall rest, sickness, injury, or any time your equine may be on a pain reliever such as Banamine or bute as these drugs have been shown to cause an increased risk of gastric ulcers.

Comments: I use omeprazole as a preventative for my horse when I trailer him and when he is stabled away from home for a show or clinic. He is a very anxious type and it has worked will with him. We have never had an ulcer problem in spite of him being very agitated in certain unfamiliar places/situations. It also puts my mind at ease knowing he has this protection.

Comments: This is one of those products where it's expensive so you try a bunch of other things hoping they will work, but nothing is quite as effective as ulcergard. For horses with ulcer symptoms, you can see the effects within just a few days when using it for treatment and seems to keep problems from popping up during high stress like travel or at a show. I always give preventative doses to my more sensitive horse after a bad bout of ulcers a few years back and so far we've been able to keep them at bay.

Comments: Omeprazole is expensive, but I use it every time I travel as preventative against my horses developing ulcers. It really works.
